Nacionalista Party (NP) standard-bearer Sen. Manny Villar was back in this vote-rich southern city yesterday but brushed aside speculation that he was meeting with House Speaker Prospero Nograles, who recently threatened to bolt the administration Lakas-Kampi-CMD party.

Speaker Prospero Nograles pleaded with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday to place Davao City under its control.
He made the appeal in the wake of what he described as escalating violence in the city, where he is running for mayor.

Election-related spending a boon to local economy
Election-related activities are driving economies in Mindanao forward at the rate national and local candidates are dispensing cash to communities.
In many areas, local candidates have been liberal in spending for paraphernalia and to some sectors in the media even before the campaign period started last March 26.

Duterte wants Davao City placed under Comelec control
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Monday asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to place the city under its control to stop the rising number of election-related violence.
"I want the Comelec to take control [of Davao City]," Duterte announced, adding that placing the city under Comelec control would assure a fair and clean elections.

Mayor proclaims senatorial lineup
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte formally proclaimed his choice candidates for the May 10 polls before his constituents on Friday evening.
Surprisingly though, the mayor did not declare support on any of the presidentiables while his "senatorial lineup" is a mix of candidates from four major political parties.

Duterte-Nograles rivalry heats up in Davao City campaign kick-off
Let the games begin.
This call once signaled the start of ancient Roman games, complete with bread and circuses, if not blood and gore. On Friday, it might have echoed just as resonantly in this premier city of Mindanao, as House Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr. kicked off his local campaign to wrest the mayoralty from incumbent Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
A banner that reads “Change We Need, Change We Must," is displayed at the entrance of the classy village where Nograles resides—a first indication that his mayoralty campaign is set to hit the ground running.

Davao City, Davao Sur poll executives told: Explain multiple registrants
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has summoned the election officers in Davao City and Davao del Sur to explain the reported multiple registration of voters in their areas.
“We are summoning the election officers to explain why this was done. There are rules to be followed… (They) were supposed to follow this,” Larrazabal told reporters.
